Private fostering
Do you know a child who is being cared for outside of their immediate family?
Private fostering is when a child under the age of 16 (under 18 if disabled) is cared for by someone who is not their parent or a ‘close relative’.
It is a private fostering arrangement if the arrangement lasts for 28 days or more.
It does NOT apply if the people caring for the child are:
- step-parents
- grandparents
- brothers or sisters
- uncles or aunts
- whether of full blood, half blood or marriage/affinity
Parents and private foster carers are required by law to let the council know before a private fostering arrangement begins.
However, if you did not know this, don't worry - you can let us know now.
