Child Safeguarding

Last updated: 11/05/2020

We all have a responsibility for safeguarding children; keeping children safe.  Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children's health or development;
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

The definition has been taken from statutory guidance, Working Together 2018 and the Children & Social Work Act 2017 which specifies inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

This section of the website for safeguarding children has been designed to provide information and guidance for:

  • children and young people
  • parents and carers
  • professionals and agencies working with children, young people and their families
